The beauty of the building alone invites you in. There is history here. Once a Lutheran church, the Prairie Arts Center now serves as the Community Theater in Madison, MN. For over 30 years, this building has hosted theatrical events, providing opportunities for involvement in and exposure to the performing arts for both children and adults. As you enter, the pictures covering the walls attest to this history, showing small one act plays, children’s theater, large musical productions and more. The renovated sanctuary now houses a stage and seating for up to 230 people. The setting is intimate, allowing the audience to fully enter in to the productions. On Golden Pond is a 1979 play by Ernest Thompson. The plot focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on a lake called Golden Pond. During the year the story takes place, they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé Billy Ray and his son Billy Ray Jr. The play explores the often turbulent relationship the young woman shared with her father growing up, and the difficulties faced by a couple in the twilight years of a long marriage.
